Basic Training for Service on Ships Subject to the IGF Code


This course is intended for seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use or in emergency response to fuel onboard ship subject to the IGF Code.

Pursuant to Regulation V/3 Paragraph 5 of the STCW Convention, this course is in accordance with provisions of Section A-V/3, Paragraph 1 and covers the mandatory competencies and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies set out in Table A-V/3-1 of the STCW Code, as amended.

This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for basic training for service on ships subject to the IGF Code, in accordance with provisions of Section A-V/3 Paragraph 1, Table A-V/3-1 of the STCW Code. Hence, those who shall successfully complete this course should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

• Contribute to the safe operation of a ship subject to the IGF Code

• Take precautions to prevent hazards on a ship subject to the IGF Code

• Apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures

• Carry out firefighting operations on a ship subject to the IGF Code

• Respond to emergencies

• Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of fuels found on ships subject to the IGF Code

The course deals with the following subject/training areas: 

• Environmental Challenges and Emission Restrictions at Sea

• Introduction to LNG Technology

• Physical Properties and Characteristics of Fuels

• Fighting Gas Fire

• Overview of LNG Bunkering Operation

• Hazard, Safety and Preparedness 

Entry Requirement / Target Group:

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Pursuant to Regulation V/3 Paragraph 4 of the STCW Convention, this course is open for all seafarers responsible for designated safety duties associated with the care, use or in emergency response to the fuel on board ships subject to the IGF Code.
