This course is intended for Engineer Officers and Electricians involved in the operation, maintenance and repair of various control systems found onboard. It covers essential aspects of marine instrumentation, automation systems, and modern control methods and equipment.

The course highly contributes to meeting the relevant requirements prescribed by Regulations III/1, III/2, III/6 and III/7 of the STCW Convention, as amended; Sections A-III/1, A-III/2, A-III/6 and A-III/7 of the STCW Code, as amended, specifically in relation to the operation and maintenance of electronic and control systems on board ships.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
The course aims to provide the necessary engineering knowledge and skills to operate and maintain ship’s control systems. Upon successful completion, participants should be able to:

  • explain the fundamentals of instrumentation and control system
  • read and interpret symbols and circuit diagrams commonly used in automation and instrumentation.
  • apply process control measurements on process control system
  • calibrate and test instrumentation devices
  • analyze the different kinds of final control elements and their applications onboard ships.
  • explain the function and trouble-shoot controllers in process control loops.
  • analyze process control systems in marine control application
  • explain the function of a complete electro pneumatic system for Marine Application.
  • describe the principles of electro-pneumatic system
  • perform basic troubleshooting for electro pneumatic control system.
  • describe the principles of electro-hydraulic system
  • perform basic troubleshooting for electro-hydraulic control system.
  • operate and troubleshoot drive system
  • operate and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers used onboard
  • explain the principle of monitoring and alarm system on board
