Dynamic Positioning Simulator (Advanced)


This advanced/simulator course of Dynamic Positioning (DP) focuses on the operational planning, conduct and execution as well as the safety practice and procedures in DP operations and provides advance training and extensive participation (in simulated environment) in a variety of capacities and scenarios while handling DP routines and emergency situation.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the DPO Trainee should be able to:

  • Carry out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks
  • Set up the DP system for a particular task
  • Operate the communications
  • Analyze the trends
  • Discuss systems failures
  • Decide on courses of action because of systems failures
  • React to alarms and printer readout
  • Initiate DP Alert status alarms
  • React to all events occurring
  • Operate the desk under normal and pressured conditions
  • Practice effective teamwork
  • Apply the lessons learned to date
  • Acquire understanding of Activity Specific Operating Guidelines (ASOG)

COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:
Emphasis of instruction and exercise activities deals with the following subject and training areas:

  • Functional Set up and Controls of a DP System
  • DP Operations (Planning, Conduct and Execution)
  • DP Alarms, Warning and Emergency Procedures
  • Review and Supplementary Topics including Human Elements in DP Operations

Entry Requirement / Target Group:

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:
This course is intended for those who have completed the DP Induction course and a minimum of 60 days DP sea time. These officers should already have a good grounding in the practice and principles of DP through their experiences in class and at sea.
