Electrical Equipment and Schematics
This course is intended for Engineer
Officers and Electricians involved in the operation, maintenance and repair of
various Electrical systems found onboard. It covers essential aspects of Marine
Electrical Systems both on typical and modern methods.
The course highly contributes in meeting
the relevant requirements prescribed by Regulations III/1, III/2, III/6 and
III/7 of the STCW Convention, as amended; Sections A-III/1, A-III/2, A-III/6
and AIII/7 of the STCW Code, as amended, in relation to operation &
maintenance of Electrical, Electronic and control systems onboard ship.
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
This course
aims to provide basic electrical engineering knowledge and skills necessary to
safely operate and maintain ship’s Electrical Systems. In particular, those who
shall successfully complete the course should be able to:
- Perform the necessary Safety Procedure in the operation, maintenance and repair of Electrical Power and Control System onboard a ship.
- Perform the basic and advance operation of electrical test and measurements. - Read and interpret onboard electrical schematics and diagrams.
- Perform basic troubleshooting techniques.
- Perform safe maintenance of onboard Electrical System.

This course essentially deals with the

- Electrical Safety
- Basic Operation of Test Measuring Instruments
- Basic Single Phase and Three Phase Motor/transformer Connections
- Ship’s Lighting System
- Galley, Laundry and Hotel Equipment
- Transformers
- Type of Schematics
- Batteries
- Common control components (Breakers, fuses, switches, relays, timers and contactors)
- Motor control configuration (DOL nonreversible starters, Reversible starters, Reduce Coltage Starters
- DC machines
- Fault Finding and Troubleshooting techniques
