Bridge Resource Management with Shiphandling for Vessels Fitted with High Lift Rudder


This course is primarily intended for deck officers and senior ratings. It practically deals with the application of maritime resource management and shiphandling principles to effectively contribute to the bridge team and safely maintain control of a ship during maneuvering. The course activities mainly consist of a series of exercises performed on a Full Mission Bridge Simulator. All simulation scenarios shall be arranged to adapt with the respective company Bridge Procedures and Emergency Response Plan. 

COURSE AIMS:
The course is designed to address mainly, but not limited to, the following: 

  • The proper actions to take in accordance with the company’s Bridge Procedures Manual and Emergency Response Plan
  • The application of relevant / sound MRM principles
  • The proper use of bridge controls and equipment for ship handling 
  • Simulated study of company “case scenarios”

 COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:
The course is divided into four training components

  1. Bridge Resource Management (BRM): covers key aspects and principles of BRM
  2. Shiphandling: review on essential areas with emphasis on high lift rudders, rate of turn, pivot point, squat, sinkage and interaction
  3. Bridge Equipment and Instrumentation: familiarization on bridge simulator controls and equipment for ship handling and demonstration of the fidelity of simulator.
  4. Simulator Exercises: to focus on collision, allision, and grounding case scenarios 

Entry Requirement / Target Group:

ENTRY REQUIREMENT / TARGET GROUP:
This course is open to all experienced deck officers and senior ratings. Companies intending to avail the course shall submit their respective Bridge Procedures and Vessel’s Emergency Response Procedures. Suggested case scenarios for simulator exercises shall be arranged accordingly.
