SHIPHANDLING SIMULATOR COURSE for Vessel Fitted with High Lift Rudder
This course is designed for all experienced
deck officers in charge of a navigational watch, including Masters and Maritime
Pilots. The course essentially covers the most of the important principles and
techniques on how to safely and efficiently handle a vessel fitted with high
lift rudder.
COURSE AIMS:
Upon completion of the course,
participants should be able to gain understanding and improved ability on how
to effectively maintain control of a ship when maneuvering in open and confined
waters, docking, undocking, anchoring, and in time of emergencies.
COVERAGE / PROGRAM FOCUS:
The course
provides shiphandling lessons and series of simulation exercises utilizing
model ship fitted with high lift rudder, focusing on:
- performing various maneuvers in open and confined waters, including narrow channels and rivers
- exercises with use of main engines, thrusters and tugs
- obtaining original data for turning circles, crash stop, and man overboard recovery
- docking and undocking maneuvers, anchoring, and picking up pilots
