This e-learning course is intended for deck
officers & ratings and for those interested in understanding the
requirements and application of the International Regulations for Preventing
Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).
The course deals the purpose & scope of
COLREGs and presents the significance and application of the key rules of each
part of the regulation. In effect, it provides practical understanding of the
rules in various navigational situations to avoid collision.
COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
After
successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Recognize the importance of safe navigation to avoid collisions
- Discuss the purpose of COLREGs and the overview of the rules covered by each part of the regulation
- Identify which COLREGs rule(s) to be applied in various situations
- Recognize the lights, shapes, and sound signals used by various types of vessels
- Cite the convention’s standards on how to verify compliance with Collision Regulations
- Describe the positioning and technical details of lights and shapes
- Summarize the additional signals for fishing vessels fishing in close proximity
- Describe the technical specifications of signal appliances
- List the distress signals used to indicate
a distress situation at sea
